Much of the work of Paul McGinley has been to take old golf courses which have lost their design qualities over time, updating them, in many cases by removing unnecessary add on features. The objective being to build to highest standards therefore maximising capital expenditures and ensuring future operating costs are sustainable.
Playing conditions can suffer from generational changes and as the game of golf evolves. Careful investment will mitigate against constant reinvestment giving the capacity of the golf course to endure thereby maximising diversity though time. All works will be underpinned with strict Health & Safety guidelines and the need for streamlined maintenance costs. Most importantly, when renovated the course has to be playable to all standards, enhancing the reputation of the course.
Paul McGinley looks to recapture the essence of what the game of golf is about in his designs, with fun top of the list! He ensures his designs give the tried & tested features which are still to the forefront in many of the great old courses. The key word for Paul in renovating is simplicity.
